Protection

Therapeutic VITANDAR fly mask

Our standard fly mask is now also available in a therapeutic version. It was developed to provide better protection for horses with eye diseases. Special care and protection is also required during aftercare following eye operations. On the one hand, the eye should be protected from wind and also from excessive sunlight in order to minimize irritation during the healing process.

Sun and wind

The upper part of the fly mask is made of opaque cotton canvas in a dark color. As with the classic fly mask, the lower part is made of hard-wearing mesh. This mesh minimizes draughts and wind very well. The eye ring prevents the fly mask from creasing in the eye when lying down or rolling around. It is made of shatterproof plastic, which keeps the fabric taut and therefore away from the eye.
The part above the eye ring is made of opaque material and therefore provides good protection from the sun’s rays. The principle is similar to that of a sun hat.

All Year

The fly mask can be worn all year round, whatever the season. In damp weather, however, care must be taken to ensure that the mesh does not become clogged with dirt. It can stick, for example, by rolling around on wet / damp ground. Therefore, check that the fly mask fits correctly and clean it regularly if necessary.

The neck strap

Like the standard mask, our therapeutic fly mask is equipped with the new ‘neck strap’ and cut further into the neck. This provides additional support and fixes the mask much better to the horse’s head. It is thus better secured against being shaken off and pulled down. It is particularly important during healing processes that the mask sits well on the head and cannot be pulled off.

Further equipment features

  • Eye ring: a reinforcement at eye level keeps the fly mask away. The hoop is also soft enough to bend when the horse rolls around so that there is no risk of injury. It is made of elastic (splinter-free) plastic and then springs back into its original shape.
  • Low weight: the basic version of the fly mask weighs just 300 grams. The lower the weight, the less it can get caught when shaken. And the greater the chance that it will stay on your head!
  • Crested cut-out: Horses with a lot of mop of hair have the option of pulling the mop of hair outwards through the crested cut-out
  • Mesh: the mesh material is very robust and tear-resistant.
  • Nose end: the transitions are softly padded with microfleece.
  • Neck strap: the additional girth prevents the fly mask from being pulled off. It is softly lined with microfleece so that nothing chafes.
  • Suitable for open stables: the fly mask holds without a halter and can therefore be worn completely on its own.
  • optional: ear and nose protection: the standard version of the fly mask only protects the eyes. For particularly sensitive horses, we offer a version with an ear net and nose protection. The nose protection can be attached with a zipper if required. It is also suitable as sun protection for horses with fair skin.

UV and sun protection

Our therapeutic fly mask has been tested by the German Hohenstein Institute and certified to UV Standard 801.

Sun protection: opaque solid fabric above the eyes provides shade and glare-free vision; reduced sunlight in the horse’s eyes

UV protection according to UV protection standard 801, tested by the German Hohenstein Institute: UV protection level 80, which is the highest standard and thus achieves full protection

Instructions for use

Note the following:

Fly masks should be checked daily to ensure that they fit correctly. Take the mask down once a day to remove any dirt.
This can get stuck in the mesh by rolling around. Clean the inside of the fly mask as well, as fur residue and dander can easily accumulate.
