Eye protection

The VITANDAR fly mask

Our fly mask may not have an infrared effect, but it has another aim: a solid cut construction that is expressed in a good fit and good wearing properties.
Our aim was to produce a fly mask that has good wearing properties in long-term use and that horse owners can rely on. After all, you can’t constantly check that it fits correctly. The area around the eyes in particular should be designed in such a way that the mesh stays away permanently.
Furthermore, the material must not chafe when the horse chews. The whole fly mask must not be too heavy either, as otherwise it will get all tangled up when shaken and fall off the head. So far, so good.

The neck strap

But what’s really new is our ‘neck strap’! The fly mask is cut much further into the neck, and an adjustable neck strap additionally secures the mask. It is therefore more secure against being shaken off and pulled down. Our tests have clearly shown this.

The headpiece is softly lined with fleece so that nothing chafes.

And: Safety first! We have split it at the neck so that it doesn’t become an accident hazard! If your horse does get caught while rubbing with relish, there is a predetermined breaking point here, which would cause the fly mask to tear in an emergency.

Further equipment features

  • Eye ring: a reinforcement at eye level keeps the fly mask away. However, the hoop is also soft enough to bend when the horse rolls around so that there is no risk of injury. It is made of elastic (splinter-free) metal and then springs back into its original shape. It is also ideal for horses with long eyelashes, which tend to get caught in the net and cause discomfort.
  • Low weight: the basic version of the fly mask weighs just 300 grams. The lower the weight, the less it can get caught when shaken. And the greater the chance that it will stay on your head!
  • Crested cut-out: Horses with a lot of mop of hair have the option of pulling the mop of hair outwards through the crested cut-out
  • Mesh: the mesh material is very robust and tear-resistant.
  • Nose end: the transitions are softly padded with microfleece.
  • Neck strap: the additional girth prevents the fly mask from being pulled off. It is softly lined with microfleece so that nothing chafes.
  • Suitable for open stables: the fly mask holds without a halter and can therefore be worn completely on its own.
  • optional: ear and nose protection: the standard version of the fly mask only protects the eyes from aggressive insects. For horses with eczema, we offer a version with an ear net and nose protection. The nose protection can be attached with a zipper if required. It is also suitable as sun protection for horses with fair skin.

Instructions for use

Note the following:

Fly masks should be checked daily to ensure that they fit correctly. Take the mask down once a day to remove any dirt.
This can get stuck in the mesh by rolling around. Clean the inside of the fly mask as well, as fur residue and dander can easily accumulate.
